Abstract

Objective: To propose a management model and its procedures for Rural Tourism in the Mocha Canton, Tungurahua Province, Ecuador. Methods: A qualitative approach prevailed, with observation applied to the development of different rural tourism initiatives in the area. Unstructured interviews were conducted with 10 informants, intentionally selected as key stakeholders. 282 randomly selected clients were also interviewed. Results: Recognition of the potential for developing Rural Tourism in the Mocha Canton, Tungurahua Province, Ecuador, coupled with the need for continuous improvement and the establishment of stable synergies among stakeholders in this activity. Based on this, a management model and its procedures for Rural Tourism in the aforementioned region were developed. Conclusions: The importance of this tourism modality, in accordance with local development policies, to influence sustainability. The proposed model possesses the necessary potential to have a positive impact on the region.
