La Education on sexuality: opinions of family heads of households in Chihuahua

Abstract

We present the results of an quantitative study, performed at an exploratory-descriptive level, which was carried out with more than 20,000 heads of households whose children attend general elementary and technical high school in the federalized subsystem of the state of Chihuahua. A Likert scale questionnaire was applied, distributed as an online form. The general purpose was to analyze the results on the opinions which, in relation to the components of sexuality: gender, reproductivity, eroticism and affective bonds, are recognized by the heads of household, in relation to the education they offer to children and adolescents. Among the main results, we found that those in charge of the family say that they offer sexuality education to their children; an open-minded attitude was found, although prejudices and indecision persist on topics such as sexual orientation, teenage pregnancy and eroticism. The results show the need to strengthen sexuality education from a comprehensive and human rights approach.
