Abstract

Long distance education represents an opportunity to continue undergraduate academic training for people who have been in a situation of inequality due to several factors. However, certain skills are required to graduate. Dropout is caused by various factors, impacting on graduation indicators. The objective of this study is to characterize the causes of school dropout at the long-distance education in the Bachelor of Statistics and Information Systems, offered at the Center of Studies for the Municipal Development and Public Policies (CEDES) of the Autonomous University of Chiapas (UNACH). The period under study goes from 2016 to 2020 based on information collected at the Institutional System of School Administration of this University. It is concluded that the causes of school dropout in this Degree are mainly focused on three aspects: the use and management of information technology, the economic factor and academic performance. Consequently, it is necessary to take urgent measures to prevent the dropout of long-distance students.
